V-Art, is a unique , educational and inclusive immersive (VR) software aimed at the art industry, giving people from all over the world the ability to experience art in a different way to how it is currently viewed.

background

Initially created as the final dissertation submission for a university bachelor’s degree in Computer Games Development.

The project was designed to allow accessibility and inclusivity to the arts to everyone around the world, regardless of circumstances while providing an engaging and educational experience in a unique and fun way.

A lot of work went into the creation of the first version of the experience in a little over 6 months to provide as many accessibility options as possible, these included

  • Disabled access through the use of static camera height and the “finger guns” interactivity system.
  • Text localisation in English, Portuguese, Romanian and Russian.
  • Text to speech of the Bob Ross area in all included languages.
  • Baked-in level design to facilitate the use of the software by people with colour blindness through the use of iconography.

The dissertation project was submitted to the TIGA 2024 UK GAMES EDUCATION AWARDS for Best Student Game and was subsequently shortlisted as a finalist.

As the creator of the the project, Will also received a note of recognition in the Scottish parliament for not only the achievement of reaching the final stages of the awards but also his efforts in focusing on the accessibility and inclusivity of the experience.

Due to these achievements, when TwistdRabbit Games was founded, V-Art was the obvious choice to become the first commercial project released to the world.

game description

V-Art is an immersive VR educational product for the art industry that solves the limitations of traditional gallery visits and basic 360° virtual tours. Instead of viewing static canvases, users step inside artist-inspired worlds, each fully built in 3D to reflect the style, mood, and environment of a specific creator.

They can explore scenes from new angles, examine characters or objects up close, and view original artworks placed throughout each world. Interactive pedestals provide multilingual text and audio explaining the artist’s life and work, making the experience inclusive for global audiences and users with reading difficulties.

The original version of V-Art featured five artists – Edvard Munch, Bob Ross, Salvador Dalí, Roy Lichtenstein, and M.C. Escher. Due to licensing and copyright factors, all but Edvard Munch will be replaced.
